Pagdanganan struggles with 77

- BY DANTE NAVARRO

Bianca Pagdanganan went the other way in moving day, tumbling to joint 66th with a horrible 77 as Aussie Min Lee wrested control with a 68 in the third round of the LPGA Mediheal Championship in Daly City, California Saturday.

Seeking to improve on her tied 38th ranking halfway through the $1.5 million championship,

Pagdanganan instead found herself scrambling to recover from a double-bogey mishap on the par-3 No. 3 — to no avail.

She did birdie the par-5 fifth hole but dropped three straight strokes from No. 6 then fumbled with two more bogeys against a birdie at the backside of Lake Merced Golf Club and limped with a 40-37.

She thus fell to near-bottom of the surviving 78-player field though she has no other way to go in Sunday’s final round as she tries to build some kind of momentum for her next event in the Meijer LPGA Classic starting Thursday in Michigan.

Lee, meanwhile, rode on a scorching finish of three birdies in the last four holes to fire a 68 and storm ahead at nine-under 207, two shots clear of Finnish Matilda Castren and Lauren Kim of the US, who assembled identical 209s after a 69 and 71, respectively.
