For our compatriots who still doubt the vaccine, we encourage them to get vaccinated when it is also available because not only your safety depends on it but also your family and the normalization we want in our country

Amid the detection of a Lambda strain of coronavirus in some countries, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar sought the cooperation of the public to strictly follow the health protocols to avoid being infected with Covid-19.

According to the World Health Organization, the Lambda strain is considered a “variant of interest.” It is being compared by health experts to the Delta variant when it comes to the transmissibility rate.

It was first detected in Peru in December 2020 but the new strain of coronavirus has not yet been detected in the Philippines.

“The Covid-19 variant has become more aggressive in recent months so we continue to remind our countrymen and urge them to continue to safeguard our safety,” PGen Eleazar said.

“The cooperation of our kababayan in the implementation of the minimum public health safety protocol is itself a strong first line of defense against the spread of the virus, no matter what variant it is,” he added.

Eleazar reminded the public that observing the minimum public health safety protocol, such as wearing of masks, face shield, and maintaining social distancing, is already a protection against the different variants of the deadly virus.

Eleazar urged the public to put their trust on vaccines approved by experts and get themselves inoculated once available: “Getting vaccinated will protect not only yourself but also your family and loved ones.”

“For our compatriots who still doubt the vaccine, we encourage them to get vaccinated when it is also available because not only your safety depends on it but also your family and the normalization we want in our country,” he explained.

Eleazar vowed that the PNP would continue its duty of protecting the public by enforcing the protocols set by the national government in this fight against the pandemic.
