The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will investigate the growing incidences of fake food delivery bookings, following a complaint lodged before the bureau by a starlet.

Actress Kris Bernal went to the NBI to file a complaint after receiving 23 sham food bookings sent to her house.

In her complaint, Bernal said she did not make even one of the 23 orders delivered to her.

A report by 24 Oras on Monday night said the fake deliveries made to the actress happened in just two days.

Grab drivers started to appear at Bernal’s home address last weekend, and all orders were made from the same number and under the same name, Jen Jen Manalo. In a video, the scammer even answered the phone to talk to the rider.

Bernal posted the video as a call for help to Grab, saying she is not the only victim, but the riders as well, since the amount of the orders was no joke.

As of 5 July, Grab had already responded to Bernal’s call, saying it had already conducted an investigation and had blocked the number from preventing this from ever happening again, even to other users.

In a Facebook post yesterday, the actress commended Grab for how it handled her complaint.

She said the concerned riders were not charged for the orders and were immediately reimbursed.

Vic Lorenzo, chief of the NBI-Cybercrime Division, said the incident is not new as they have received similar complaints before.

Lorenzo said they will be reviewing the matter to determine the proper filing of charges against those responsible for the orders.

Bernal told the NBI she sought the agency’s help in behalf of her mother and also the riders who were victimized by the bogus orders.

She added she knows the woman behind the fake delivery, and revealed the same person had previously victimized other actresses before her

Likewise, she said she does not know the woman’s motive for the fake orders, and even asked that she stop doing it.

The actress said the woman has been using the same phone number, adding it was actually the third time that it had been done to her.

Bernal said she pitied the delivery riders because they are the ones footing the bill for the orders.

The suspect apparently has made orders ranging from P200 to P2,000.
