Buy sweepstakes ticket ‘for better health’
Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) general manager, Royina Garma, urged partner institutions to help the agency sell more tickets to generate funds for health programs and social services.
“We need more funds — and to generate more funds, we need to sell more (sweepstakes) tickets,” Garma told reporters in a press conference.
She said 50 percent of the total charity funds raised by the PCSO goes to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation in support of the universal health care program of the Duterte administration.
Before the press conference, the PCSO turned over P35.39 million as part of its mandatory contributions to partner institutions and Small Town Lottery/Lotto shares to the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Recipients of the mandatory contributions are the Philippine Sports Commission with P74,549.46, Commission on Higher Education with P18,481,431.00, Girls Scout of the Philippines with P278,420.00, and the Philippine Red Cross with P767,110.68.
The PCSO has also handed out P15.79 million of STL/Lotto shares to NBI and PNP. The NBI for January and February 2021 will receive P3,059,821.84 and P3,255,594.54, respectively. The PNP will receive P7,622,576.11 and P8,165,973.59 for the same months.
“I encourage all the agencies that we have given funds to deliver this assistance to those who are most in need, especially indigent people served by your agency,” Garma said.
