Additional ‘pros’ in PNP seen

The recruitmen­t of the Medical Officers and Medico-Legal Officers is intended to augment the present medical workforce of the PNP to address the current pandemic

In line with the efforts to boost manpower in the Philippine National Police (PNP), the National Police Commission (Napolcom) has permitted the police agency to recruit more profession­als to improve the technical and administra­tive capability of the organizati­on.

In the Napolcom Resolution 2021-0612, it stated that they allowed the PNP to recruit more doctors, lawyers and IT experts through lateral entry into the police service to fill up 434 vacancies in the police organizati­on for the ranks of Police Captain and Police Lieutenant.

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar, meantime, welcomed the approval of the recruitmen­t for technical officers, saying this would result in improved operationa­l capability of the police organizati­on.

“IT experts can help us with the adjustment­s that we can make so that we can keep up with the ‘new normal.’ They can also help us curb various types of cybercrime,” Eleazar said.

The vacancies include 163 Medical Officers for the Health Service; 20 Medico-Legal Officers for the Crime Laboratory; 100 Legal Officers for the Legal Service; 100 Informatio­n Technology Officers for the Informatio­n Technology Management Service; and 51 IT Officers for the Anti-Cybercrime Group.

They will also be utilized to speedily resolve forensic cases and facilitate medical processes.

Meanwhile, Napolcom vice chair and executive officer Vitaliano N. Aguirre II said that the recruitmen­t of the Medical Officers and Medico-Legal Officers is intended to augment the present medical workforce of the PNP to address the current pandemic.

“They will also be utilized to speedily resolve forensic cases and facilitate medical processes,” Aguirre said.
