Since there’s no censorship online, Filipino movies have become more daring. For instance, in Revirginization, lead star Sharon Cuneta gets drunk, screams, curses and licks a young man’s chest while showing her ample cleavage.
But shortly before the film’s trailer was uploaded on 4 July, the Megastar, worried stiff over how her fans would react, posted on social media a long note to explain her side.
Excerpts from the note “Please remember that it is just a movie, just another role that is VERY, VERY DIFFERENT from ALL THE OTHER ROLES you have seen me play.
“And this movie is the opposite of ALL the movies you have ever seen me in! Please broaden your mind, enjoy it, and I sincerely hope you watch it on Vivamax starting 6 August!
“It’s gonna be a rollercoaster of a ride… YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN OR HEARD DIALOGUE FROM ME LIKE YOU WILL IN THIS MOVIE...”
She reassured her fans: “Don’t worry I am still the same Sharon who will still be doing the kind of movies you have loved seeing me in! It’s just that, once in a while, please allow me to be different — at least on the screen. I am, after all, an actor.
“And doing all kinds of roles is part of my job! Thanks so much! And PREPARE YOURSELVES, PLEASE!”
Less than 24 hours later, according to Sharon’s Instagram feed, the Revirginized trailer has gained 5 million views.
The movie is directed by Daryl Yap and streams on Vivamax starting 6 August.

Paolo and Marco are sons of former actor Dennis Roldan — Mitchell Gumabao in real life, who’s serving life imprisonment after being convicted in 2014 of kidnapping charges.
As an actor, Dennis had the privilege of appearing in films by Lino Brocka and Laurice Guillen.
