DOE SEALS TIE-UPS TO TAP WIND POWER
Harnessing our wind energy resources would open up a limitless resource of reliable and indigenous clean energy
The Department of Energy (DoE) is strengthening its partnership with the wind industry in an effort to uncover the massive offshore wind potential of the country.
The agency said Monday that it is seeking to collaborate with Carbon Trust and the Global Wind Energy Council by bringing in industrial viewpoints and expertise critical for market development and partnership.
“Harnessing our wind energy resources would open up a limitless resource of reliable and indigenous clean energy, bringing us closer to our energy security and sustainability goals. This development would also redound to the benefit of
Filipinos through job generation, public health benefits, and the influx of significant inward capital investment,” Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said.
Robust wind infusion
The DoE also noted that its Renewable Energy Management Bureau wanted to secure a more robust investment environment for the Philippine wind sector, especially that there are challenges in floating wind applications.
While the Philippines is still in the early stages of its offshore wind journey, the DoE said it had already awarded development rights to initiate projects in the northern and central areas of the country.
The DoE has been recalibrating the country’s energy policies and measures to ensure a just energy transition — one that would eventually help the country realize the domestic and regional goals of attaining a sustainable energy future.
