Jutanugarn, priming up for the Tokyo Games, also birdied the last four holes at the back then added two more in the first five holes at the back before holing out with an eagle on the par-5 18th put herself in contention.

Anannaruka­rn also eagled the 18th but had two bogeys against six birdies.

New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, another gold medal contender in the Summer Games, fired a 65 to tie first round joint leader Yealimi Noh of the US. Who carded a 68, at 133.

World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who will spearhead the US bid in Tokyo with sister Jessica, Lexi Thompson and Danielle Kang, rallied with a 67 after a 74 as she advanced with a 141 for a share of 40th.

Jessica also made it through at 142 after a 69 while Kang and Thompson skipped the event to prepare for the Olympics set Aug. 4-7 in Saitama.

A number of Tokyo-bound shotmakers, however, took an early exit, including England’s Jodi Shadoff (73-145), Spain’s Carlota Ciganda (73-147), Germany’s Caroline Masson (74-147), Aditi Ashok of India (73-148), and Min Lee of Taiwan (78-152).
