Pangasinan launches free WiFi

A total of 142 WiFi sites had been erected in 21 localities in the province of Pangasinan to provide free Internet service to all.

The Department of Informatio­n and Communicat­ions Technology (DICT) and the provincial government have launched the “Free WiFi for All” program over the weekend at the Pangasinan at the Pangasinan Training and Developmen­t Center II.

DICT Secretary Gregorio “Gringo” Honasan II and Governor Amado Espino III led the launch.

Engr. Conrado Castro, Jr., the DICT head in the province, said the free WiFi will cover, among other locations, the Pangasinan State University and various government hospitals in the area.

Honasan and Espino signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen the partnershi­p between the agency and the provincial government in providing seamless Internet connection to Pangasinan.

Also present during the launching were Undersecre­taries Jose Arturo de Castro and Arnold Atienza , OIC-Assistant Secretary Adrian Jude Echaus and Luzon Cluster Director Nestor Bongato, all from the DICT.

They were joined by League of Municipali­ties Pangasinan Chapter president Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil, Liga ng mga Barangay president Jinky Zaplan, Pangasinan SK Federation president Jerome Espino, Pangasinan provincial police director Ronald V. Gayo and provincial government department heads headed by Provincial Administra­tor Nimrod S. Camba.

142 sites in 21 localities form the backbone of the Internet system launched by DICT and the province.
