ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bangsamoro Governance Summit 2021 pushed over the weekend closer coordination among the Muslim region’s officials and local chief executives in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

The theme of the summit was upholding moral governance and uplifting the lives of people at the BARMM.

Turtle Island Mayor Mohammad Faizal H. Jamalul said Saturday they tackled the region’s priority projects for fiscal year 2022.

BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim expressed optimism, “that we can bridge our programs, projects, and activities that are genuinely responsive to the needs of our people.”

Jamalul said the transition period provides the Bangsamoro nation an opportunity to build the foundations to address development challenges.

“I am proud to say that we have taken significant strides in laying the groundwork needed for the attraction and infusion of capital,” the mayor said.

Among the priorities are environmental and infrastructure undertakings, as well as fostering favorable regulatory schemes, he said.

“Over the past week, regional authorities went to your respective provinces and listened to your plans and priority programs and projects. We believe that being the government at the local level, you can shed more light on the situation on the ground,” Ebrahim added.

Local chief executives and governors from BARMM’s five provinces, representatives from the national government, such as chief Presidential legal counsel Secretary Salvador Panelo and Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri (via zoom), and BARMM key officials and development partners attended Friday’s event.

“Our LGU (local government unit) will play a vital role in this endeavor by ensuring that our government is seen, heard, and felt by the people,” Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said in a message read by Panelo.

“Your success in this undertaking will definitely complement the national agenda to further empower our LGU to become stronger, more capable, and more resilient,” Go said.

Jamalul said the transition period provides the Bangsamoro nation an opportunity to build the foundations to address development challenges.
