Presidential Chief Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo on Wednesday highlighted the accomplishments of the Duterte administration on the country’s education system.

In his online program, “Counterpoint” on Wednesday, Panelo said President Duterte will be remembered in history for opening doors to the Filipino youth through the new opportunities for them to achieve their dreams.

The Department of Education (DepEd) is the lead agency tasked to provide free, quality education, and equitable allocation of resources to students.

As of May 2021, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) built various education facilities, such as the construction of 150,149 classrooms, and 2,064 school workshop buildings nationwide. About 206,000 teachers were hired and an additional 10,000 will join the ranks this coming August.

The continuity of the implementation of the K to 12 program assured the country will produce 3 million students with different academic skills. The government will continue to provide training in compliance with the international standards, he said.

The government also helped around 2.2 million Filipino youth without financial capabilities who want to pursue secondary education through assistance programs like the Education Service Contracting Programs and Senior High School Voucher Program.

The Duterte administration also strengthened the implementation of Republice Act 11510, otherwise known as Alternative Learning System by providing adequate and timely support to the basic learning needs of the out-of-school youth and indigenous people. Around 3.6 million students across the country are benefitting from the program.

The agency also improved the Modular Distance Learning program by distributing one million computers, laptops, and tablets to ninety-three percent of public schools in the country.
