Gordon catches it, too
Senator Richard Gordon announced on Wednesday that he had tested positive for Covid-19 and is asymptomatic.
“I received word this morning from our molecular laboratory at the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) that my RT-PCR (Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test result has come back positive,” Gordon said in a statement.
The senator said he immediately went under home quarantine after getting his test results.
“I am feeling slightly under the weather but am exhibiting no other symptoms as of now and my doctor has advised me to rest and isolate at home. I will continue to observe my symptoms and report any significant changes to my doctor,” he added.
His wife and staff have tested negative but are due to re-take the tests after three days.
The lawmaker, however, is scheduled for a CT scan later in the day to have his lungs and blood tested due to the threat of the Delta variant of Covid-19.
Gordon, who also serves as chairman of the PRC, contracted the virus despite being fullyvaccinated with AstraZaneca vaccine.
Inoculated individuals are still susceptible to the dreaded virus but are less likely to develop severe symptoms and get hospitalized.
Still, the senator encouraged the public to get vaccinated and continue practicing minimum public health standards such as wearing masks, face shield and practicing physical distancing.
“Vaccines work and they save lives. I urge every Filipino to get vaccinated against Covid-19 if a vaccine is made available to you by your LGU, your employer, the Red Cross, or any other organization that has access to vaccines,” Gordon said.
“We are at war with an invisible enemy. Protecting ourselves and our loved ones is our best chance to win this battle. For as long as large numbers of people remain unvaccinated, the virus will creep into our homes and communities and destroy lives and livelihood,” he said.
“I want to remind everyone that the most effective protective measures remain the same and must be practiced at all times — wear a mask, observe physical distancing, and wash/ disinfect your hands regularly. These protocols should remain in place even for vaccinated people for as long as the majority of the population has not been vaccinated,” he added.
Gordon is the sixth senator to contract the virus after Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senators Sonny Angara, Aquilino Pimentel III, Ronald dela Rosa and Bong Revilla Jr.
