Unlike others who have parents or spouses who have held high positions in government or are born into political clans, Moreno said he had always been on his own and will continue to be so, if he gets the highest position in the land

Manila mayor and presidential aspirant Isko Moreno said his wife and children will continue to keep a low profile and stay out of his work if he becomes President of the country.

Moreno made this assurance during a forum, pointing out that in the past 23 years of his life as a public servant, not once did any member of his family got involved in his job in whatever way.

While his wife will definitely assume her role as the First Lady, Moreno said that she will not participate or dip her hands in governance as she had done from his days as a councilor for first district and vice mayor both for three terms and now as city mayor serving his first term. Each term is three years.

“I’m really proud of my children and wife because for the past 23 years, hindi talaga sila sumali sa gobyerno (They did not really join government). That is also my policy. That nobody from them can interfere in government,” Moreno said.

The mayor, who is the standard bearer of Aksyon Demokratiko party, said that his wife had always opted to just stay in the background and avoided being dragged into politics.

“My wife may function as First Lady but she will not have any role in government activities or policies. She’s so simple. She goes to the mall, do the grocery only in maong and t-shirt. Very simple,” he explained.

According to Moreno, he really needs all the help that he can get since he has no family member or relative who is into politics.

Unlike others who have parents or spouses who have held high positions in government or are born into political clans, Moreno said he had always been on his own and will continue to be so, if he gets the highest position in the land.
