Kagawad, cop shot dead
As lawmen approached the house, Jalipa peeped from the bamboo grills and fired at them, hitting SSgt. Elvin Agting in the face
A barangay kagawad (council member) and a policeman died after being shot by a 33-year-old man in Bugasong, Antique over the weekend. The suspect was also killed when other lawmen shot him, according to the Western Visayas regional police.
Lt. Col. Arnel Solis, regional police spokesperson, said cops in Bugasong first learned that one Efren Florendo, a kagawad from Barangay Cubay South, was shot dead in neighboring Barangay Cubay North around 5:30 p.m.
Responding lawmen found the 60-year-old Florendo’s body and were told that he was shot by one Roy Jalipa. They conducted a pursuit operation and managed to locate Jalipa at the house of his sister, Solis said.
As the lawmen approached the house, Jalipa peeped from the bamboo grills and fired at them, hitting SSgt. Elvin Agting in the face, he said. Other members of the responding team then shot Jalipa, until he fell.
Agting was brought to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead at 6:41 p.m. Police recovered a homemade 12-gauge shotgun at the crime scene.
In Batangas, two persons died, apparently from suffocation, inside a pit in Padre Garcia Friday afternoon, police reported.
The fatalities were identified as Dante Miniscula, 48, and Jayson Lustares, 32, both residents of Pagbilao, Quezon, according to a report from the Padre Garcia police.
They were found lying inside the pit, about 10 to 15 meters deep, in Barangay Castillo, at 1:15 p.m., but the discovery was only reported to local police around 9 p.m.
That pit was reportedly dug to serve as storage for a fuel tank, police said.
Members of the Bureau of Fire Protection and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office helped recover the bodies.
Further investigation into the incident is ongoing, police said.
