No Covid-19 cases at PGH in last 2 days
He attributed the decline in the number of hospital admission to the high vaccination rate in Metro Manila, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
The Philippine General Hospital (PGH), the country’s largest referral center for Covid-19, had no new Covid-19 cases in the last two days, its spokesperson said Friday.
“One good news is I was told [that] for the last two days, we have not admitted anybody for Covid. Our numbers are continuously going down,” PGH spokesperson Jonas del Rosario said in an interview on ABS-CBN News Channel’s Headstart.
Del Rosario said PGH has a total of 350 Covid-19 beds during the surge in August. However, he noted that the hospital is now catering to only 54 Covid-19 patients.
“Double-digit numbers are really rated occurrence in PGH but now we are really going to the 50s, and who knows maybe in the next few days or weeks, we will be down to 20s,” he said.
“That is good news because we can now open more, open our hospital to non-Covid patients,” he added.
Del Rosario noted that the decline in the number of Covid-related admissions prompted the hospital to lessen the number of wards allocated for Covid-19 patients.
“Now we have trimmed it down. We were able to close the three Covid wards and open them to non-Covid patients. That’s really a big boost,” he said.
He attributed the decline in the number of hospital admission to the high vaccination rate in Metro Manila, the epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Based on the latest data from the National Vaccination Operations Center, Metro Manila still has the highest vaccination rate among all regions with 109 percent of its target population in the region.
