The holiday season is, without a doubt, the busiest time of the year with preparations for the parties and gatherings especially for the ones assigned to host the festivities. The busy season also calls for heavy duty appliances like a refrigerator to keep the food fresh and to preserve leftovers, washing machine to clean table cloths or the family’s Christmas OOTDs, and vacuum cleaner to make cleaning before guests arrive and after they leave fast and efficiently. Here are tips to keep your holiday helpers running smoothly during and after the home gatherings.

For refrigerators, keep the doors closed. While opening and closing the refrigerator is inevitable, it’s best to prevent doing so. It can impact not just the appliance but also the electrical bill.

According to compactappliance.com, “As the cold air escapes from your appliance, it requires more energy to return it to its intended temperature.”

It’s best to properly assess the things needed from the refrigerator before opening its door.

For vaccum cleaners, dust the filters. To keep the longevity of vacuums, the best thing to do is to clean its filters so that picking up dirt wouldn’t take a toll on its motor. Everett Vacuum suggests: Every three months is the average for most users; for heavy users, it is every six months; for pet owners it’s every year; and for light users, every two to three years.

For washing machines, rinse the washer. Ironic as it is, the washing machine isn’t cleaned during the washing process.

A Sears Home Services tip is to run an empty load of hot water with two cups of white vinegar every month. In the middle of the wash cycle, add half a cup of detergent and let the full cycle complete.
