The Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) have partnered for BI employees to secure national IDs through the agency’s Philippine Identification System (PhilSys).

A special on-site National ID registration for BI officials and employees was conducted at the BI’s office in Intramuros.

To ensure social distancing, employees were scheduled and grouped by the BI Administrative Division in five separate days.

BI Deputy Commissioner Aldwin Alegre inspected the site registration on its initial roll out last 25 November and shared that the process was systematic, quick and followed health standards.

Frontline servants

Alegre said Republic Act 11055, or the Philippine Identification System Act, aims to establish a single national identification system for all citizens and resident aliens of the Philippines.

It is meant to simplify public and private transactions, to promote seamless delivery of social services and strengthen financial inclusion for both public and private services.

BI Commissioner Jaime Morente thanked the PSA for accommodating the frontliners for the registration.

“We thank the team of Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa for the project,” Morente added.

He also stated the partnership with the PSA has allowed their frontliners to secure the much-needed national ID without having to leave their duties, at a time when they are spread thinly because of Covid restrictions.
