Tagum: Why it’s the City of Festivals
The Araw ng Tagum Special will coincide with the State of the City Address of Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon and the coronation night of the Mutya ng Tagum 2022
Tagum, officially the City of Tagum, is a first-class component city serving as the capital of Davao del Norte.
It is a city that respects people’s beliefs and heritage and preserves the culture cherished by generations. To safeguard its rich cultural diversity, Tagum City holds various events and festivities throughout the year.
In fact, there are now 16 festivals celebrated in Tagum City, through the initiative of the City Tourism Council,
to showcase and develop the skills, talents and capabilities of all sectors.
Now, is it any wonder that Tagum City is now known as the City of Festivals? This year, it commemorates the 24th Araw ng Tagum today, with three events highlighting the celebration.
The Araw ng Tagum Special will coincide with the State of the City Address of Tagum City Mayor Allan Rellon and the coronation night of the Mutya ng Tagum 2022.
To recall, Tagum hosted three major national competitions in 2010 — the National English Jazz Chants Festival, the National Schools Press Conference and the 9th Musikahan Festival.
The 3rd International Rondalla Festival, the first international competition Tagum hosted in 2011, implanted the city into the roster of cultural hubs in Southeast Asia.
Meantime, in recognition of the city’s efforts in strengthening literacy in the region, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization will confer the Honorable Mention for the King Sejong International Literacy Prize.
The City Literacy Coordinating Council of Tagum will receive the honor for its “Peace Management Literacy and Continuing Education through Night Market” program.
