Fiber Internet service provider Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions Inc. confirmed its participation in the South-East Asia Hainan-Hong Kong Express Cable System (Project SEA-H2X).

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, Converge said it is a party to a Construction and Maintenance Agreement (C&MA) effective on 4 March.

The company said the agreement defines the terms and conditions upon which Project SEA-H2X will be provided, constructed, operated, maintained, and implemented for the entire duration of the C&MA.

Project seeks to address the tremendous growth of the telecommunications traffic between South East Asia and Hong Kong.

“The coming into force of the C&MA is still subject to certain conditions precedent which include securing certain regulatory consents and approvals. This disclosure will be updated in due course,” the disclosure read.

Particularly, the project seeks to address the tremendous growth of the telecommunications traffic between South East Asia and Hong Kong by building and implementing a state-of-the-art fiberoptic submarine cable system connecting: Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Hainan China and Hong Kong SAR.

Big-name partners

Apart from Converge, other partners for the project development include CMCC Infrastructure 3 Limited, PP Telecommunication Sdn. Bhd., and China United Network Communications Group Company Limited.

Last month, Converge confirmed that it started to lease fiber lines and other ground support equipment for SpaceX’s satellite broadband venture. The telco firm aims to launch its commercial services with Elon Musk’s firm in the country by next year.

Musk’s Space Exploration Technologies Corp. had already started to deploy Low Earth Orbit broadband satellites around the world.
