On top of the vaccine game (or trying to be!)
Victoria, Australia — Here in the community where I live, there are around 200 new cases of Covid -19 each day and around 1,108 active cases of a citywide population of over 113,000 people. Yes, Covid is still very much around, but life has gotten a lot better and definitely more active and social than in the previous two years.
Every other week I still hear of friends or friends of friends getting ill due to SARS-CoV-2, but, thank God, all of them have been able to manage their symptoms at home. It helps that they are vaccinated and awaiting when the government’s health department advises us to get our second booster or fourth Covid inoculation.
I recently got my flu shot, a bit of preventative measure to help set me up for what is forecasted to be a bitterly cold winter. Last week or so was only the start of the new season, but already I have been feeling temperatures of from 0 to -4 degrees!
There’s a push from the health department and Victorian government to avail of the winter dose Covid-19 vaccine for all who are eligible to receive a second booster. That’s on top of the yearly call close to wintertime for everyone to get inoculated against influenza. I’ve received the latter vaccine and am hoping to qualify for my second Covid booster shot soon.
A Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao-based friend of mine with a comorbidity has already received her second booster jab, as is the case for priority groups elsewhere in the Philippines.
If we can all reamin on top of the respective health department recommendations for vaccinations across the globe, it will be less of a struggle to get past these pandemic years.
I know it’s easier said than done, but if we keep on keeping on in our little circles of influence, surely things can only get better from here on.
