Rianne gains quarterfinals

Rianne Mikhaela Malixi won two consecutive matches in abbreviated fashions to reach the quarterfinals of the 122nd Women’s Western Amateur at the Sunset Ridge Country Club in Northfield, Illinois Thursday.
The 15-year-old Filipina, who ended up second behind American Sadie Englemann in the stroke play preliminaries, rode on a hot start in each of the match to pick up the victories.
Against Megan Furtney, Malixi raced to a three-hole lead after six holes, lost two holes in the next five before winning 11 and 12 to end the contest on 17, 2 and 1. Furtney took the 15th hole.
In the Round of 16, Malixi also took three of the first five holes against Hung Jo Hua but gave it all back in a four-hole stretch that included back-to-back bogeys from 10.
She, however, bounced back by taking the next two holes and 15 to finish off Hung after 16 holes to complete a 3 and 2 win. Malixi will face Marissa Wenzler who nipped Abby Glynn, 1-up. The other quarterfinalists were Annabelle Pancake, Brooke Biemann, Maddison Hinson-Tolchand, Chloe Schiavone, Caroline Smith and Grace Curran.
Pancake stunned Englemann, 2 and 1, in the Round of 32 before ousting Casey Weidenfeld, 6-up, in the Last 16.
Biemann eliminated Matilda Miels, 4-up, and
Zoe Slaughter who retired after 13 holes. Tolchand, on the other hand, needed two extra holes to oust Sora Kamiya and edged Taglao Jeeravivitaporn.
Schiavone nipped Jennifer Hebst, 1-up, and routed Ashley Kozlowski, 4-up; Smith outlasted Sky Sudberry, 1-up, and Jackie Lucena, 3-up; and Curran trounced Meiyi Yan, 4-up, and Kirsten Rudgeley, 4-up.
