WHAT WORK FROM HOME?

COVID-19 CASES RISING? MANY COMPANIES THINKING OF KEEPING THEIR WFH SET-UPS. NOT DAILY TRIBUNE WHERE IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN BUSINESS AS USUAL.

- BY ALVIN MURCIA @tribunephl_alvi

When Covid-19 forced the government to impose lockdowns to stem the spread of the killer virus, Daily Tribune moved heaven and earth to guarantee its readers, viewers, and social media followers continuing access to news they can trust.

The paper did not miss a single day of printing even as many of its competitors stopped the presses. While the majority of businesses also resorted to work-from-home (WFH) set-ups, the men and women of the Tribune never stopped getting the news from the very source. What WFH? Tribune

reporters and photographers crashed many locked down areas, including those in Sampaloc, where befuddled policemen serving as sentries thought us crazy to be going out when everyone else was staying in. Those who could not work in-person simply quit, but those who fancied themselves brave enough to face an unseen enemy stayed on as Concept and Information Group Inc., the company that took over publishing the Tribune in 2018, hustled. Hustled to buy the vaccines for its employees and their families when private procurement of the same was greenlighted by the government. “We spent maybe half a million pesos for those vaccines,” Tribune

president Willie Fernandez said. Hustled to get its employees jabbed even before the privately-sourced vaccines could be released; hustled to keep its office compliant with health protocols through regular disinfection.

Covid was not to be denied and a number of Tribune

frontliners did get it, but with no one needing serious medical care, with heaven’s intervention probably, and the provision of medicines to quarantined workers.

Over two years since Covid-19 rendered the streets of the country deserted like scenes from the post-apocalyptic movie Omega Man and its remake I Am Legend, it has always been business as usual for Daily Tribune.

Covid-19 cases rising? Many companies thinking of keeping their WFH set-ups. Not Daily Tribune! Remember, Without Fear, Without Favor?
