DIGITAL, THE TEAM THAT NEVER SLEEPS

IS AN ATTEMPT TO GET PEOPLE OUT OF THEIR SHELL, FROM THEIR CURATED IMAGE… TO BE AS GENUINE AND OPEN.

- BY EDJEN OLIQUINO @tribunephl_eao POCHOLO Concepcion only needs a smartphone to keep news flowing.

From being a broadsheet newspaper for most of its 22 years of existence, Daily Tribune has evolved into an “Omnimedia” news and public affairs and lifestyle enterprise. It now boasts of digital shows, and 24/7 online reporting spread across its websites and social media platforms.

Most recently, Daily Tribune has also forged a tie-up with Digital Out Of Home or DOOH to power giant state-of-the-art digital platforms now saturating Metro Manila and (soon) the other metropolis of the country in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

For the shows, there are

Straight Talk, Kalanpag, Gising Na! and special coverages like the inauguration of President Bongbong Marcos and his recent State of the Nation Address.

But what

Tribune separates from its competitors that have also gone the digital way? Today, readers can access the latest news produced by the Tribune editorial team via print, online, radio and digital television. Whether politics, business, lifestyle, sports, trivia, cooking and talk shows, or sit-down interviews, Tribune has them all covered. Thanks to its hardworking employees who are giving the enterprise their blood, sweat and tears even — no, make that, especially — at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jona Juliano, program director, told this writer she is delighted that she has grown professionally along with the evolving a digital offerings.

Gising Na!, Straight Talk, Space Buddies, Biyahero, and Usapang OFW are among the shows she’s handling as a woman behind the camera, working almost non-stop to ensure that the shows, including the live ones, are running on schedule and perfectly, with seamless transitions.

As a program director, Juliano said her job is far from easy — challenging with stomach -churning pressure, yet fulfilling.

Alvin Kasiban, the man behind the creation of i-Speak, joined Tribune and intimated that he just wanted people to have a break from the hard news. He described i-Speak as something light and relaxed.

It’s a “chill show” where people can express their opinions and sentiments on whatever issues are creating a buzz, Kasiban explained. It’s an attempt to get people out of their shells, from their curated image “to be as genuine and open,” he added.

When it comes to being updated on the latest news, Bella Cariaso, a senior digital editor, has stood as a rampart of the Tribune’s news and information dissemination and gatekeeper against the fake news swirling on social media.

Cariaso said the digital team is the team that never sleeps as they go on shifts and rotations to ensure they are able to get the latest news to the thousands of KaTribu Viber members and the millions of Tribune followers on its websites, Facebook, Twitter

and Instagram accounts.

With Bella as editors are Mark Escarlote, night creature Vernon Velasco, and Gerard Manalang. The team’s back end are composed of Thenesse Cornelio, Cheriel Lazo, Michael Pingol, Miguel Togonon, Venice Bautista, Raven Cabalonga, Christian Barbacena, Joy Asagra, Kenneth Tabornal, Josef Solangon, Gio de la Piedra, Jhay Diego, and Jeffrey Geneblazo. Serving as Digital and Infrastructure head is Demic Pabalan, while Pocholo Concepcion is Digital Editor.
