DoST calls on students health boost

- RAADEESAUSA

The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute is urging schools, families and concerned agencies to fortify students’ health both inside and outside the classroom through proper nutrition.

DoST-FNRI director Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa said that in a recent Expanded National Nutrition Survey, it was discovered that three in 10 Filipino children are stunted, which makes them more vulnerable to Covid-19 and other diseases.

“With proper nutrition, meaning providing the children with the correct amount and types of foods, they will be shielded from frequent attacks of illnesses during the F2F (face-to-face) classes,” Agdeppa said.

The survey also reported that undernutrition remains prevalent among our population in rural areas and those in low-income households and the nutritional status of preschool-age children has improved.
