The Department of Transportation on Tuesday confirmed that the 24/7 free rides along the eDSa Busway will start on 1 December, earlier than the initially scheduled date on 15 December.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said he asked the Land Transportation Franchising and regulatory Board to advance the start of the program, which is meant to alleviate the daily ordeal of commuters in Metro Manila.

“This initiative by the DoTr and LTFrB is a way to ensure that all our passengers have a ride beyond the usual operating hours on the eDSa Busway,” Bautista said.

The DoTr chief said the LTFrB will issue a board resolution that will formalize the 1 December implementation of Libreng Sakay under the government’s Service Contracting Program.

amid an expected surge of passengers due to the upcoming holiday season and adjusted mall hours, the 24/7 Libreng Sakay operations will run from 1 to 31 December.

This initiative by the DoTr and LTFRB is a way to ensure that all our passengers have a ride beyond the usual operating hours on the EDSA Busway.

Last august, the DoTr received a P1.4 billion additional funding from the Department of Budget and Management to extend the eDSa Busway free ride program.

under the service contracting program, public utility vehicle operators and drivers who participated in the free ridership program will receive a one-time payout and weekly payments based on the number of kilometers traveled per week, whether they have passengers or not.
