Increased obese children seen
The Department of Science and Technology-Food and Nutrition Research Institute disclosed that obesity rates among children and adults have increased during the Covid-19 pandemic.
DoST-FNRI’s survey also revealed that about 3.9 percent of children under-five and 14 percent of children aged five to 10 are considered obese, as it also increased among adolescents and adults.
Moreover, the FNRI said that the figures were higher than the country’s targets in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition 2017-2022.
“The 2021 ENNS showed a general picture of the food and nutritional situation when the country was experiencing during pandemic surges,” the FNRI said.
