Bill adds Phl history during WWII College curriculum
A bill mandating higher education institutions to teach Philippine history during World War ii has been approved on third and final reading by the House of representatives.
A total 275 votes passed House bill 5719, a consolidation of Hb 933 and 4157 filed by reps. roman romulo and Harris christopher Ongchuan, respectively, and was passed by the House committee on Higher Education before getting final approval in the House plenary.
“A comprehensive study of Philippine history during World War ii shall be integrated into and shall cover a reasonable percentage of the mandatory Philippine History subject being offered under the general education curriculum in higher education courses of all higher education institutions in the country,” the House added.
Hb 5719 aims to highlight the role of national heroes in the historical development of the country, thus educating the youth on the values of patriotism and nationalism while preserving for posterity the stories on the great struggle and heroism of Filipino soldiers who fought Japanese occupational forces during the war.
