The Parañaque City government on Monday rewarded with an instant promotion a female job order employee who returned the P30,000 left by a taxpayer at city hall last week.

The employee, Helen Arellano, was given casual status with full benefits at the City Environment and Natural Resources or CENRO office, during the flag ceremony yesterday.

She was cited as a good role model for others to emulate in the speech given by Mayor Eric Olivarez.

“We need more honest employees like Helen, and we would like her to be a role model and a good example to all our employees,” Olivarez said.

City Treasurer Dr. Anthony Pulmano handed Arellano a cash gift, while CENRO head Mark Besa awarded her a plaque of recognition to the cheers of fellow city government employees.

Arellano is assigned to the CENRO janitorial services division and detailed at the police clearance section where she found an envelope containing important documents and P30,000 in cash last Thursday, 17 November.

The money and documents belonged to a woman from Barangay San Dionisio who was about to pay her Real Property Tax.

However, while processing her documents, she inadvertently left the envelope at the police clearance section and went home without noticing the loss.

Arellano found the envelope and promptly turned it over to Besa.

They were able to trace the owner through the documents inside the envelope.

Job order employees are only paid on a daily basis, without any other benefits. As a casual employee, Arellano will be entitled to benefits like bonuses and 13th-month pay, aside from a higher pay rate.
