Higantes Festival declared special holiday

Angono is known as the ‘Art capital of the Philippine­s.’ it is also the hometown of two national artists

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. — through Proclamati­on 98 — declared 23 November 2022 as special non-working day in Angono, rizal in line with the celebratio­n of Higantes Festival of the town.

The proclamati­on was signed by executive Secretary lucas Bersamin on Monday, 21 November, but was made public only on Tuesday by Malacañang and the local government of Angono.

Vice President Sara Z. Durterte has joined this year’s celebratio­n of Higantes Festival last Sunday, 20 November, where she hinted on taking Higantes of Angono to her hometown in time for the two major festivals — the Araw ng Dabaw in March and Kadayawan in August.

The Higantes Festival is celebrated each year on 22 and 23 November to honor San clemente, the patron saint of fishermen. The festival features a parade of hundreds of higantes, or papiermâch­é giants.
