Maguindanao massacre commemorated
The Commission on Human Rights commemorated the tragic incident 13 years ago — the Maguindanao Massacre — which is considered as one of the worst electoral violence in recent history and the deadliest single media attack with 58 persons brutally killed, 32 of which are journalists.
In 2019, a Quezon City court presided by Judge Jocelyn Solis-Reyes, rendered a guilty verdict against some members of the Ampatuan clan involved the massacre.
The commission welcomed the verdict and recognized the efforts of the court to resolve the case based on the merits of the evidences and testimonies presented, as well as the measures done by the Supreme Court to assist and expedite the proceedings
The CHR is still calling for justice for the victims and their families considering that many of the accused remain at large and only a few have been arrested when the partial decision was rendered in 2019.
