The Department of Migrant Workers is eyeing a discussion with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with regards to the process of distribution of unpaid wages of more than 10,000 ex-Filipino construction workers affected by the closure of construction firms in 2015 and 2016.

DMW Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac said that the agency does not want to make pronouncements until after the discussion with the KSA on the implementation of the agreement between President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

Around two billion riyals or $532 million worth of unpaid salaries will be distributed to concerned overseas Filipino workers and will be funded by the Saudi government.

“We are looking into the implementation, suchasthematter on the basic questions, when the releases will come, and in terms of the manner in which the fund releases will be made or how the money will be distributed, and of course, the amount and the beneficiaries involved,” Cacdac said.
