The Philippine Postal Corporation unveiled their newly-issued special commemorative stamps featuring the late President Fidel V. Ramos at the Manila Central Post Office recently.

Two stamp designs have been introduced to the public — one showing a portrait of the late President and the other is a close-up shot. Both stamps bear his name and a brief text about the signing of Proclamation No. 494, declaring November as National Stamps Collecting Month.

PHLPost also unveiled the official first day covers bearing an illustration of Ramos signing Proclamation No. 494 and the Seal of Presidency, as well as a souvenir sheet providing a brief summary of the said proclamation.

Ramos signed the said proclamation in 1994, two years into his presidency. The late leader was also known as an avid stamp collector and has passed on his hobby to members of his family.

Representing the Ramos family during the ceremonial launch is Cristina Martinez-Ramos, the late President’s daughter and former president of the Philippine Olympic Committee.

Postmaster General Norman Fulgencio gave tribute to the former President, calling him a ‘brand ambassador’ of postage stamps because of his intent to push for the promotion of Filipino culture through stamps.DAN
