This will not only help the country become one of the sports powerhouses in Asia but also encourage our young people to stay away from illegal drugs and criminality by getting into sports.

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go continues his unhampered public service for Filipinos, especially the youth, as he personally provided assistance to indigent students in Minalin, Pampanga.

Held at Barangay Sta. Rita Covered Court, Go led his team in the distribution of grocery packs, masks, vitamins, shirts, umbrellas, and meals to 593 college student scholars. Additionally, the senator provided cellular phones, shoes, and watches to select beneficiaries.

The senator — who also chairs the Senate Committee on Sports, likewise gave away bicycles and balls for basketball and volleyball to select students in line with his efforts to encourage the youth to get into sports and stay away from illegal drugs and other vices.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development, meanwhile, provided separate financial educational assistance that the student-scholars may use for their daily necessities.

Emphasizing the youth’s vital role in nation-building, Go reassured that he continues to push for initiatives to enhance the country’s educational programs to further empower the youth, who the senator considers as the country’s future leaders.

The lawmaker has been pushing for several legislative measures to secure and protect the welfare of Filipino children as he reintroduced Senate Bil 1190 which, if passed, would provide for the expansion of the application of the additional one percent Special Education Fund tax to the other needs of the public education system, such as the construction and repair of libraries, and payment of salaries, allowances and other benefits of teaching and non-teaching personnel, among others.

“My proposed measure thus seeks to institutionalize the expansion of the application of SEF to other education-related items, such as the payment of salaries, allowances and other benefits of teaching and non-teaching personnel,” said Go in an earlier statement.

Meanwhile, as a staunch advocate of sports development in the grassroots, the lawmaker filed SBN 423 or his proposed Philippine National Games Act of 2022. If enacted, the measure shall provide a more inclusive system that shall efficiently nurture and support potential Filipino athletes, and shall give them equal opportunities of becoming future contenders in international sporting competitions.

“This will not only help the country become one of the sports powerhouses in Asia but also encourage our young people to stay away from illegal drugs and criminality by getting into sports,” Go said.
