Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., is set to leave the country to represent the Philippines in an annual conference of the International Criminal Police Organization in France that seeks to strengthen member countries in the fight against transnational crime.

According to Azurin, the annual meeting will discuss what was talked about during the 90th Interpol General Assembly last month in India which includes financial crime, anti-corruption, cybercrime, crimes against children, DNA database of missing persons, and other matters.

“This is like the annual meeting of all the chiefs of police who are members of Interpol. The resolutions that were discussed in Interpol in India last month will be finalized. This will be operationalized by the different Interpol members. The exchange of information between member countries is easier in the fight against transnational crime. Most of what is discussed there is more on cybercrime and cybersecurity,” Azurin told reporters on the sidelines after he administered the oath-taking of 95 Newly Appointed Police Commissioned Officers under the PNP Lateral Entry Program CY 2022 for Technical Officers on Friday.

Azurin will join the directors of the Directorate for Intelligence, Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management, Directorate for Operations, Directorate for Police Community Relations and DICTM and are expected to return to the country in December.

“We are with the QUAD staff, the intel, operations, investigation as well as the DICTM director, Maj. Gen. Valeriano De Leon and the other staff from our secretariat are also here to take note of what we can discuss there but we will be back by 4 December,” Azurin said.

Last month, Azurin together with five other police and government officials joined the 90th General Assembly of the Interpol in India.
