Contenders or pretenders?
They don’t take the FiberXers seriously. They consider them as pretenders.
Converge — the newest kid on the Philippine Basketball Association block — has been making heads turn recently.
Not only is the FiberXers catching the attention of everyone — from coach Aldin Ayo coming to practices in pajamas and sandals or coaching while sipping coffee to issuing a strong statement that even a National Basketball Association player like Quincy Miller can be benched if he doesn’t abide by the team rules — the youngest team in the PBA has been making headlines recently.
Prior to the shocking benching of Miller, Converge was the hottest team in the PBA, winning seven straight games.
The FiberXers are still very much in contention for the top two berth and they are gatecrashing their way in the upper half of the standings like somebody uninvited and dislodging the regular participants in the guest list like TNT Tropang Giga, San Miguel and Meralco.
To some, Converge is like a flash in the pan. They’re wondering when the strong, uninterrupted signal can last so they can watch their favorite videos or films being streamed live.
Others considered the FiberXers like a team of the moment. Enjoy it while it lasts because here comes the big dogs when push comes to shove.

Converge is trying to prove a point and come 30 November, it can clearly measure itself how far it can go.
The FiberXers will be battling Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, the league’s crowd darling, and in front of the diehards, they will be able to make a statement that their time has come.
Young they may be considered, but they are determined to show that they belong to the big boys playing in an elite league like the PBA, that they are the new contenders, ready to charge in the way of those blocking their paths.
A new dawn has come for Converge.
A proud independent team that had taken over the rich franchise of the old Alaska squad, this team is ready to make its own mark in the big league.
