Nadine as shadowy online worker who can’t ‘delete’ her dark past
‘It’s different. People haven’t seen me like this,' the award-winning actor said about her MMFF entry movie
Nadine Lustre went out of her comfort zone to play a mysterious character in Viva’s upcoming thriller movie, Deleter.
“It’s different. People haven’t seen me like this,” Lustre said in a media conference.
She plays Lyra, who works at a shadowy online site as a “deleter” tasked to filter graphic uploads from circulating on social media.
While nonchalant about encountering disturbing images at work, Lyra is confronted by a dark past as horrific as what unfolds online.
“Lyra, my character, hindi siya masyadong magalaw. Nag-i-imagine ako na may kausap kasi puro screen lagi ang kaharap ko. It’s all in my head. I did a lot of inner monologue. That’s my technique,” Lustre said.
Deleter began production in August and wrapped up end of September.
With Lustre in the film are Louise de los Reyes, McCoy de Leon, and Jeffrey Hidalgo.
It is directed by Mikhail Red (Dead Kids, Arisaka, Birdshot) and co-written with Nikolas Red.
“The Philippines is now the fastest-growing hub for this outsourced work, mostly for international clients in clandestine setups. We interviewed a lot of these deleters, some through online forums and deep web, using anecdotes and their experiences to help us craft the world and character of Lyra,” Mikhail Red told Variety.
The technique is similar to his earlier work in Rekorder where he used multiple formats and mediums including CCTV, webcam, cellphone footage, and viral videos.
Deleter, produced by Viva Films, is an official entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival. It premieres 25 December in cinemas nationwide.
