Technology catches up with 2 phone thieves
Two cellphone thieves landed in jail and are now facing charges after being tracked down by police shortly after they took a cellular phone inside a convenience store in Makati City at dawn on Monday.
Apparently, the suspects who were identified only as alias Jake and PJ, don’t know that the three cellular phones they took from customers inside the convenience store are equipped with a global positioning system that led to their arrest.
Reports had it that the suspects entered the convenience store in Makati City and took the three cellular phones from the victims.
Police said the victims were about to leave the store when they were accosted by the suspects who took their phones though it was witnessed by the security guard who took it upon himself to call the police.
However, tracking the exact location of the suspects was very easy because the GPS of the phones of the victims were active thus they were immediately arrested.
Suspect PJ claimed that he was innocent of the crime because he merely accompanied the other suspect but he doesn’t know his plan to rob the store customers.
On the other hand, suspect Jake said he has a problem at that moment the reason he robbed the victims and did not inform his colleague about his plan.
Police recovered the three cellphones from the suspects who are now facing robbery and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
