The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board announced on Tuesday that the original number of bus units traveling along the EDSA Busway Line has been restored to better serve the commuting public.

In Board Resolution 189-2022 approved by the LTFRB, buses plying the busway now stand at 750 from the previous 550, with the line now using the so-called “fare box” scheme.

Under the fare box scheme, passengers will be billed using a matrix or guideline approved by the LTFRB. Operators had been required to obtain the fare matrix from the LTFRB technical division.

“Through the fare matrix, we can ensure that the bus fare charged is the only one approved by the LTFRB,” Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III, chair of the board, said in a press statement.

“If there are buses that charge too much, please report them to us immediately so that we can take action and impose appropriate punishment on whoever violates,” he added.

According to LTFRB technical division chief Joel Bolano, personnel had been mobilized to monitor the deployment of buses and the number of passengers.

“Even though there is a fee for the buses that travel on the EDSA Busway, LTFRB personnel are still deployed to monitor the deployment of buses and the number of passengers,” Bolano said.

Apart from this, the LTFRB has put up “fare matrix” tarpaulins at all bus stations to guide passengers about the correct fare. Commuters were also encouraged to always check that the fare collected from them follows the LTFRB-approved matrix.
