Cavite special elections slated February
The Commission on elections on Tuesday disclosed that the conduct of special elections to fill the vacant congressional seat in the seventh Legislative District of Cavite will commence on 25 February.
Comelec executive director atty. Teopisto elnas said that there 365,184 registered voters in all 116 barangays in the district — covering the City of Trece Martires and the municipalities of amadeo, Indang and Tanza.
He added that the total registered voters came from the official list of voters as of august last year, adding that the elections will be automated and will be using vote counting machines.
“For purposes of submission of results at the precinct level, we will not be having a transmission. Manually, they will bring the sD Cards to the municipal Board of Canvassers to be uploaded and be included in the canvassing,” elnas said.
Commissioner Marlon Casquejo is assigned to handle the Project Management Office for the conduct of the elections.
“For that matter, the results from the municipalities will be consolidated to be brought in to the provincial board of canvassers, which will canvass the results from the municipal level and then, proclaim the winning candidate,” he added.
Commissioner Marlon Casquejo is assigned to handle the Project Management office for the conduct of the elections.
elnas said that VCMs will be tested and prepared ahead of the special elections, including the final testing and sealing of the machines five days before the scheduled polls. The poll body is also aiming to conduct refresher courses for members of the electoral board.
To recall, Justice secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla vacated the congressional position following his appointment to the Department of Justice.
Remulla was unopposed at the time of his run for Congress under the said legislative district during the 2022 national and Local elections, gaining 202,784 votes. He was the district’s first Congressman after its creation in 2009, holding the position from 2010 to 2013 and another from 2019 to 2022.
