PNP highlights AKG role vs organized crimes
Over the past 11 years, the AKG has established itself as a leading force in the fight against kidnapping
Philippine National Police chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. on Thursday lauded the efforts and strengthened operational capabilities of the Anti-Kidnapping Group headed by Brig Gen. Rodolfo Castil Jr. as the primary unit of the PNP responsible for conducting police operations and investigations against kidnapping perpetuated by organized crime and terrorist groups in the country.
According to Azurin, over the past 11 years, the AKG has established itself as a leading force in the fight against kidnapping and through tireless work and determination the AKG operatives have rescued countless victims and apprehended numerous perpetrators.
“However, it is important to acknowledge that there are still hurdles to overcome. Kidnapping continues to pose a danger in some communities as culprits constantly devise new methods to carry out their crimes,” Azurin said.
He added that the PNP-AKG must be vigilant and must keep its strategies and tactics ahead of criminal elements.
“And as your Chief PNP, I have faith in the capabilities of each one of you and as a unit. your dedication, bravery, and expertise in handling complex cases have been a source of pride for all Filipinos,” Azurin said.
In 2022, a total of 17 rescue operations were conducted, resulting in the recovery of 59 victims, the neutralization of 9 Kidnap for Ransom and the arrest of 33.
Among notable accomplishments was the successful rescue operation on 14 September 2022, in Angeles City, Pampanga, at the height of the issue of PoGo-related crime incidents which resulted in the arrest of one Chinese national and the rescue of 43 Chinese Nationals, which eventually led to the closure of the concerned PoGo establishment.
