Rapporteur sowing confusion — Gadon

- JING VILLAMENTE

Presidential Adviser for Poverty Alleviation Secretary Larry Gadon on Friday debunked the claims of United Nations Rapporteur Ian Fry and defended the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict or NTF-ELCAC.

Gadon said Fry is just sowing confusion by meddling in government policies that address the economic situation of Filipinos in far-flung areas.

“He must be thrown where he belongs. Making baseless accusations and recommendations to abolish the NTF-ELCAC is just his handiwork to remain and receive higher pay from the UN,” Gadon said.

The NTF-ELCAC, Gadon said, was created to provide for the efficient implementation of the “whole-of-nation/government approach” to help those “whose rights are violated” by communist rebels and their affiliates in mainstream society “that disguise as rights defenders.”

“He (Fry) is receiving a big amount of money from the UN, plus the perks of traveling with allowances, making these nonsense claims in countries that have an effective way of fighting rebellion and poverty for its people,” he said.

He added that the NTF-ELCAC “has been very instrumental in uplifting the lives of people living in conflict areas pestered by communist terror groups” and providing economic activities to improve the lives of the poor in these communities.

He said the anti-insurgency body has the support not only of the past administration and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. but of all the lawmakers in the House and Senate.

“It has improved the lives of many poor Filipinos by bringing government services right to their far-flung communities.”
