Operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation reported the arrest of a rent-a-car employee for allegedly trying to extort P300,000 from one of the firm’s customers for a damaged vehicle in Makati City.

Authorities identified the suspect as Kumar Bhagwindas Thadani, also known as “Solo,” an employee of Angel Rent-aCar services. He was apprehended by operatives of the NBI’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division after he received the marked money from the complainant during an entrapment operation last Tuesday.

The NBI charged the suspect before the Makati City prosecutor’s office with robbery-extortion, estafa and grave threats.

The NBI said the complainant rented a car from Angel Rent-a-Car from 25 March to 3 April but, during that time, the vehicle sustained a small dent and a long scratch after colliding with a motorcycle.

When the complainant returned the car, she narrated that they came to an agreement that the repair of the car would no longer be taken out of the insurance coverage and instead, she would recompense Thadani amounting to P35,000.

Reports also showed that Thadani had allegedly been tormenting the complainant with threats of sending her to jail after that and even threatened to sue her and have her pay P200,000 to P300,000.

It added that the suspect threatened that they would file a case for carnapping against her and further threatened that they would post her photo on Facebook and would set a reward for anyone who can find her.

The NBI said the complainant sought the help of the NBI-AOCTD due to fear for her safety.
