Remote Aurora areas now connected

BALER, Aurora — A total of 11 schools from far-flung areas of Aurora are now connected to the internet after the Department of Science and Technology provided these educationa­l institutio­ns with Starlink kit.

DoST Aurora project technical assistant I Regine Maines said that the Starlink kit is a technology from Space X that includes a satellite dish and router with a free one-year subscripti­on to the Internet.

She added that the Starlink satellite Internet service can be used by the teachers and students to connect to digital media and provide a new way to broader educationa­l resources.

Dianawan National High School and Villa Aurora National High School in the town of Maria Aurora; Dikapinisa­n National High School and Rosauro Tangson Elementary School in the town of San Luis; Dimaseset National High School, Dimaseset Elementary School, Diniog Elementary School, and Pedro Orata Elementary School in the town of Dilasag; Lawang West Elementary School and Paraiso Elementary School in the town of Casiguran; and Mariano D. Marquez Memorial National High School in the town of Dinalungan were the beneficiar­ies of the Starlink kit.

The DoST has allotted P1.146 million for the said project under the Community Empowermen­t through Science and Technology program that aims to provide livelihood and relief from poverty in far-flung communitie­s by transferri­ng technology to beneficiar­ies in the field of education, health and nutrition, water and sanitation, risk reduction, and developmen­t of the lives of the people.

A total of 60 projects have already been executed in the province of Aurora since its start in 2018. From the 60 projects, 29 have already been completed while 31 more are currently being implemente­d.
