Phivolcs sees no tsunami threats

The Philippine Institute of Volcanolog­y and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported no tsunami threat in the Philippine­s following a magnitude-6.5 earthquake that jolted Papua New Guinea on Monday morning.

The state seismology bureau said that based on their evaluation of available data, no destructiv­e tsunami threat exists.

“This is for informatio­n purposes only, and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippine­s from this earthquake,” the advisory read issued at 5:12 a.m.

A 6.5-magnitude tremor hit northern Papua New Guinea with a depth of 64.7 km, according to the US Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the quake struck at a depth of 64 kilometers and was roughly 110 kilometers (68 miles) east-southeast of Kimbe on the island of New Britain.

P2-M weeds in Benguet, Mt. Province destroyed

BAGUIO CITY — Two separate operations against illegal weeds in Benguet and Mountain Province destroyed around P2.79 million worth of marijuana on Sunday, 14 April.

Joint personnel of Bakun Municipal Police, the Benguet Provincial Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency Cordillera conducted a marijuana eradicatio­n from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Sito Lambi, Kayapa, Bakun, Benguet. The operatives discovered more or less 800 fully grown marijuana plants (FGMJP) with a standard drug price of P160,000.

The FGMJP were uprooted and burned on site. Samples were taken to the Regional Field Unit Cordillera for qualitativ­e test. The authoritie­s stated that alternativ­e recording device was used during the operation.

3 druggies collared in Pangasinan

CAMP BGEN OSCAR M FLORENDO, La Union — Through the collaborat­ive effort of Dagupan City Police Station and Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency Regional Office 1, three drug personalit­ies were arrested Monday morning.

B/Gen. Lou Evangelist­a, regional police director, reported that the three suspects were caught in buy-bust operations.

Evangelist­a said that 5.3 grams of suspected shabu with market value of P36,040 were recovered from the suspects whose ages were 27, 60 and 42 years old.

No pullout of troops on Maisug

DAVAO CITY — The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division (10ID) denied having been ordered by Presidenti­al Assistant for Eastern Mindanao Leo Tereso Magno to pull out his troops in the Davao del Norte Sports Complex during the Hakbang ng Maisug Prayer Rally in Davao del Norte on Sunday night (14 April).

Maj. Gen. Allan Hambala, the 10ID commander said the rumored pullout surfaced hours before the start of the scheduled prayer rally event at the provincial sports complex.

He said that it was his decision to reposition his troops to the second and third layer of security plan and not upon the order or request of Secretary Magno as rumored.
