It is a brand new school year indeed for grade six students of Hinguiwin Elementary School in Padre Burgos, Quezon as they will be attending classes in their newly built modern classroom.

Built through TeaM Energy

Foundation’s (TEFI) Project SIKAP

(Silid Aralan para sa Katuparan ng mga Pangarap), the two-classroom, one-storey school building is disaster-resilient, safe and modern. It is also complete with classroom facilities like arm chairs, tiled floors, blackboards, electric fans and lighting fixtures. Each classroom also has its own comfort room with toilet, sink and a children size urinal.

“Lack of classrooms is one of the many problems of our public education system,” explained Ricky De Castro, executive director of TeaM Energy Foundation. “By partnering with the Department of Education (Dep Ed) and the local government of Padre Burgos, we were able to provide this brand new school building to the students of Hinguiwin Elementary School, and we hope that these new classrooms will inspire them to study better.”

Through TEFI’s Project SIKAP, a total of ten school buildings have already been built in the provinces of Quezon and Pangasinan, two of which were in partnership with Philam Foundation. TEFI and Philam Foundation also partnered to build another school building in Marawi City.

TEFI is the social development arm of TeaM Energy, the single largest Japanese investment in the country.
