HOME IMPROVEMENTS

It was an exciting day in Singapore for the first launch of the latest Dyson products in the South East Asian market. The Dyson V11, an absolute cord-free vacuum and the Dyson Pure Cool Me Personal purifying fan. The V11 is the result of more than a decade of research and development in cord-free and digital motor technology, with 315 engineers working on the project, and 32,500 prototypes produced. The latest iteration of the brand’s vacuum range features the most powerful battery, seven larger highcapacity cells with nickel-cobalt-aluminum cathodes that provide more suction power.

In producing the latest machine, engineers looked back to its highly successful predecessor V10. They added a triple diffuser, with the first two focused on airflow and turbulence to help power suction, while the third diffuser decreases.

The blades on the impeller are longer and thinner to increase the area in contact with the air, without making the impeller’s mass much bigger. Thus, reduced loading on the blades per unit area reduces air leakage and increases the efficacy of air movement.

Attached to the machine is an on-board screen, which shows current performance and remaining run time. An additional feature reminds users to clean filters and clear blockages, allowing for easier user experience when cleaning.

Other than the focus on the machine, Dyson’s team of engineers also focused on the wellbeing of users. The V11’s vacuum is fully sealed with a filtration system that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns, which in turn expels cleaner air.

Three cleaning modes are designed for a range of tasks: auto mode offers the best balance of power and run time and self-customizes according to different floor types. Boost mode is for intensive cleaning of dirt in hard-to-reach areas. Eco mode provides 60 minutes of run time.

PERSONALIZED AIR

The Dyson Pure Cool Me Personal purifying fan has a new core flow technology that transforms the way air is delivered. This compact machine is perfect for personal space, from the bedside table to the desk.

Dyson engineers had heard of the phenomenon called “sleep divorce,” where married couples sleep in separate rooms for a number of different reasons, one of the most growing ones due to differences in preferences for personal thermal comfort. Therefore, they decided to create a machine that could work for both people. “At Dyson, one of our guiding principles, when we build new machines, is that we solve real problems, for real people, in real homes,” says Paul Dawson, VP of Health and Beauty for Dyson.

The Core Flow Technology is a revelation in delivering clean air to personal space. Dyson engineers discovered that when two air jets meet on a convex surface, a high-pressure core and a focused stream of air is created. This phenomenon allows a stream of precise air to cool and deliver cleaner air.

The dome on top of the machine allows for a precisely controlled angle of airflow. The HEPA filter captures 99.95% of particles as small as allergens, and the activated carbon in the machine traps harmful gases and odors in the home.

Designed to be as quiet as possible, the acoustics in the machine absorbs excess noise from the motor and is pleasant to use in close proximity. More than 1000 tests were conducted, measuring both sound volume and sound quality, with a new acoustic matrix designed to better reflect user’s perception of sound.

An intelligent light system actively tracks ambient light, with automatic dimming and brightening built in the LCD screen that is made to blend in with the home environment. A sleep timer is included if the option of turning the machine on and off is needed.
