Henares-Yuzon
A celebration of love amidst rock ‘n’ roll
Quark Henares and Bianca Yuzon met at a Christmas party. “She and my cousin were talking about the anime Attack on Titan,” says Quark, “which I knew nothing about, but I inserted myself into the conversation anyway.” Quark, a film-maker, proposed to Bianca, a musician, in a way that made use of both their talents. “I staged a music video shoot where I knew I'd pop the question. As she was singing, the backdrop fell and in bright neon lights, a sign said "I love you Bianca. Will you marry me?" Quark says. “In the studio next door, her friends and family were waiting to surprise her.”
They had a three-day celebration at Alila Villas in Uluwatu, Bali. The first night had a welcome dinner with traditional Kecak dancing, speeches from treasured friends and family, and performances from Quark’s friends, indie band Ciudad and legendary rockers Sandwich. “Everyone was saying ‘I cannot believe this was just the welcome dinner’ because hijinks like crowd surfing, drunken revelry, and onstage acrobatics ensued,” says Quark.
The next day featured a solemn and emotional ceremony (in which Quark says many were bawling, most notably himself) set against the cliffs of Alila Villas during sunset. Being a celebration of creation, the cocktail area also served as an exhibit hall; featuring portraits of the couple by artist, photographer and filmmaker friends such as CJ de Silva, Samantha Lee, Miguel Nacianceno, and Arnold and Cynthia Bauzon. True to their fun-loving, self-deprecating natures, Quark and Bianca came in doing a cover of Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life", forgoing the usual traditions like the first dance. This was followed by emotional speeches from the couples' parents, best man and maid of honor. The couple then surprised each other: Quark with a short film celebrating his relationship with Bianca, and Bianca with a few surprise songs that had special meanings to the newlyweds. Then came Rockeoke, where wedding guests and famous pop artists like Christian Bautista, Raimund Marasigan, Yael Yuzon and Basti Artadi would alternately jam onstage with The Johnnys.
Bianca designed the four gowns she wore that night. “Aside from music, fashion has always been one of my first loves,” she says. “When Quark proposed, I already knew what style of gown I wanted to have and what vibe I wanted to bring to life for each part of our program, from the ceremony to the after party.” People remarked that Game of Thrones must have inspired her for her outfits, and while that may be the case, according to Bianca, she has always been into fantasy and science fiction elements. “I wanted to infuse medieval and modern elements together to create something that felt both otherworldly and ancient but relatable at the same time,” she says.
The next day was a “hangover party” at Omnia Bali. “It was kind of like everyone's reintroduction to the world and true to its name, people kept their hangovers at bay by drinking even more,” says Quark, laughing.
