With the influence of the group fitness model making its way through the practice of Pilates, B+B Studio still firmly believes that a one-on-one instructor is the way to go. “The 19 years that B+B has been teaching has cultivated Instructors who teach with vast experience because of their hands-on knowledge, not just from learnings from the certifying courses,” says partner Marilen Concepcion.

Marilen joined founding owner Carmen Jimenez-Ong because they both shared a common vision of introducing the benefits of well-being from practicing Pilates. “Having Pilates in our bodies has given us an awareness of being centered and grounded,” says Marilen. “It has kept us feeling youthful despite the demands of work and motherhood.” The evidence lies in the exemplary strength of both women: “In Carmen's case, 4 childbirths, and in mine, at 58, having run 4 marathons—the first one at age 50, and now an indoor cycling instructor,” says Marilen.

Walking into the light and airspace at B+B studio, the welcoming atmosphere is alive and well, and it is clear why this venture has

lasted so long in an increasingly oversaturated fitness market.

“We want clients to feel that they are more stable, balanced, and flexible,” says Marilen. “They feel stronger because strength really comes from working deeper muscles, from being able to move with more fluidity, and from an awareness of their own bodies.”

While the idea of Pilates, and taking up a fitness routine might seem overwhelming, according to Marilen, there is no need to fear. “Pilates is for everybody,” she says. True to form, B+B Studio offers a variety of classes in Pilates, and Redcord Suspension, and a fusion with other modalities like yoga and interval training. “There are classes for pre-natal and post-natal clients, teenagers, athletes, postrehabilitating clients, and senior clients,” she says, proudly. “We make sure that the program given is tailored to the needs of the individual.”
