BATHED IN LUXURY
CARTIER’S Baignoire watch is an elegant showpiece that highlights the brand’s rich history and exquisite design repertoire
In the 1910s, a creative concept of an oval-shaped timepiece was the focus of years of study and formal research. This gave birth to the Baignoire watch. Cartier’s masterpiece reveals the brand’s artistic excellence and drive for innovation. Its resplendent beauty is embraced by stylish women who have a deep love for classic elegance and timeless aesthetic. Worn and much appreciated by women of refined taste and culture such as Catherine Deneuve, Romy Schneider, and Jeanne Moreau, the horological piece is a perfect reflection of a woman with a sophisticated sartorial taste.
Imagine Louis Cartier in 1912, playing with the traditional round shape of a watch and stretching it out. And with two straight parallel lines closed by two curves forming the shape of a bathtub (baignoire in French), the watch was given a name. This would eventually become a cult Cartier object. In the path of continuous evolution, the piece would adopt its familiar slightly curved oval shape in the late 1950s with a dial stamped with Roman or Arabic numerals and bordered by gold gadroons—the perfect setup for another adaptation in years to come.
Paying homage to the 1958 model, Cartier’s design studio reworked the Baignoire. In an immaculate balance of pure design and sophisticated lines, the watch features a more streamlined bracelet with modernized Roman numerals on a silvered sand-blasted background. Overall, the timepiece dazzles in choices of yellow gold, white gold or rose gold, retaining its French chic aesthetic and representing an exquisite grace characteristic of Cartier.
