LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

- @FIERCEDONG

The red charity gala have been one of my most anticipated ball every year. i’m always excited about who the featured designer would be and the kind of production it will have. i can’t believe that the red charity gala have been here for ten years it existed this long, and i believe it continues tommorow because of its innate core to help various beneficiaries and Philippine society’s belief of its worthy cause. Most importantly, with Tessa Prieto-Valdes and Kaye Tinga’s leadership, dedication, generosity, and love for charity. It has gone bigger and bigger every year.

And this year is a huge milestone. Not only because

Red Charity celebrates its 11th year, but also due to its magnitude: featuring ten internationally-acclaimed world-class designers in just one show.

Tessa and Kaye have remained true to their cause to help various charities and non-government organizations such as the Philippine National Red Cross, the Assumption High School Batch 1981 Foundation, and the Save Palawan Seas Foundation, to name a few. This year they came out stronger and bolder. There is nothing like doing something that you love, having fun with it, and more importantly, having a great sense of fulfillment for doing it.

Generosity. This is the value that keeps this cause going for ten years. A value that is integral to its existence. Authenticity. A value that is not only upheld by Tessa and Kaye but also by its benefactors: to give back. The Red Charity Gala is not only a symbol of philanthropic values but of promoting Filipino designers and elevating them to a different stature once they are featured at the Gala.

Ten years have passed. All ten magnificent designers have made a name for themselves. These ten designers believe in the mission and vision of the Gala. They want to give back. And being invited is such an honor in all its glory. Being presented not only at a charity event but also in one of the most awaited fashion events of the year with over 800 discerning attendees and various media outfits on a lookout is indeed a dream for Philippine fashion designers. Driven by purpose and commitment to give back, these ten designers have made their mark not only in the fashion industry but in the realm of philanthropy as well.

Prolific designers Dennis Lustico, Cary Santiago, Chito Vijandre, Ezra Santos, Furne One, Joey Samson, Jojie Lloren, Lesley Mobo, Michael Cinco, and Rajo Laurel presented their designs and made the audience beam with excitement and focus. The designers showed sartorial perfection, intricate beadwork, detailorientedness, impeccable tailoring, precision, remarkable fabric manipulations, and exquisite designs that will make you truly proud to be a Filipino. Indeed, they are extraordinary couturiers, continuously raising the bar in the fashion industry not only in the Philippines but also in the world. The iconic 80-piece show will forever be remembered in our minds. This was indeed a milestone for the Red Charity Gala.

What a gratifying experience it was to watch a show of this magnitude: a result of charity and act of selfless sharing. Tessa and Kaye, this unstoppable duo will continue to defy expectations. And I know for a fact that the Red Charity Gala will continue to live on and will continue to be an institution in Philippine society.

All the best to the 2020 Red Charity Gala.
